About Chinook

Chinook is an Allures 45.9 constructed in Nantes and Cherbourg France in 2019 by Allures Yachting.  She is hull number 14 of the 45.9 model and was named after the warm chinook mountain winds that frequent Calgary during the cold winter months. It was -30C when we submitted our boat registration and we longed for a chinook, so Chinook it was.

Chinook is designed to cruise in comfort and safely cross oceans. Her hull is aluminum, a material of unrivalled strength, and welded onto frames and stringers. Rather than an aluminum deck, Chinook has a composite GRP foam-cored deck providing comfort and reducing weight. She has twin rudders and a saildrive set well forward so there is some wash over the rudders.

Chinook has a minimum draft of 1.06m. This is possible because her ballast is integral to her hull and she has a lifting centerboard. She can explore shallow areas which allowed us to travel the inland French canal system.

The accommodation is spacious and comfortable. We have the 2 cabin, 1 tech room and 1 head layout with separate shower and linear galley. The nav station has both forward and aft facing seating and is raised up to take advantage of the large coachroof windows.
